Resident Charged with Armed Robbery on Chicago's North Side

Chicago police arrested an Evergreen Park man who robbed several people on the north side of the city.

Chicago police arrested an Evergreen Park resident and one other man in connection with an armed robbery spree on the city's north side.

Police said Marcus Parker, 23, of the 9800 block of South Maplewood Avenue in Evergreen Park, was charged with two felony counts of armed robbery with a firearm, two felony counts of aggravated robbery, unlawful use of a weapon, and possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition without a valid firearm owner's ID card.

Joel Shavers, 22, of the 10400 block of S. Peoria St. in Chicago, was charged with three felony counts of armed robbery with a firearm, police said.

According to Chicago police, tactical officers who were patrolling the 19th district were aware of a recent string of armed robberies and monitored a radio call describing an armed robbery of a 22-year-old male that had just happened in the 2900 block of North Mildred Street at about 7:40 p.m. Sunday.

The message gave a detailed description of two offenders and their escape from the scene as they ran toward Fullerton Avenue, police said, and the officers were able to track them down quickly.

As officers searched for the offenders at the CTA station, they boarded the train at the Diversey Avenue Brown Line station and found Parker and Shavers sitting in the first train car, police said. Both men matched the description provided by the most recent armed robbery victim, according to reports.

Police said Parker was carrying a fully loaded handgun.

The 22-year-old victim was able to positively identify both men as the offenders who robbed him, according to reports.

Police said after arresting Parker and Shavers, they recovered several items they were concealing after committing similar armed robberies dating back to Dec. 1.

Stolen items included smart phones, credit cards, and a compact digital music player, police said.

Police said Parker and Shavers were expected to appear in Felony Bond Court Monday.

Excellent work CPD. When I read the EP police blotter, all I see is arrests where they pull someone over and find 1 gram of marijuana or maybe they go pick up a shoplifter at Walmart after they are called by store security.

There are real criminals in E,P. How about focusing your attention on them?
