Leap Day Baby Takes a Bite Out of Life

Little Charles Gregory Padgurskis has quite the conversation starter, and it’s good for a lifetime. Parents Charles and Patricia say it was his choice to come into the world on Feb. 29.

“We were joking that he might be a Leap Year baby,” mother Patricia Padgurskis, a 34-year-old physical therapist, said. “But we never expected him to choose it himself! He just kind of came on his own.”

“Charlie,” as his parents call him, was born on Leap Day at. At 11:04 a.m., he weighed in at 8 pounds, 9 ounces and he measured 21 inches long.

Patricia says Charlie came out hungry. "As the OB was delivering him, he bit him!” she said. “But I’m sure he’ll be coming up with his own stories soon enough."

While some might think it’s sad only having one birthday every four years, don’t fret too much. Aside from an extra special birthday once every four years, the Padgurskis have a plan. “We’ll probably celebrate (Charlie’s birthday) on Mar. 1 each year,” Patricia said, adding that he may get a few extra gifts on his special, true birthdays.

Charlie comes from a long line of Charles Padgurskis. The name has been in the family for four generations. His middle name, Gregory, comes from Patricia’s father.

Charlie is the youngest of three, with two older sisters who are 2 and 4 years old.
