Cops Nab Woman on DUI with Child in Tow
Evergreen Park Police received a tip that a woman was driving around the village with a bottle of beer and a child in the back seat.
Police found a woman driving around Evergreen Park with a child and an open bottle of beer in the back seat.
A woman driving a white Hyundai stopped and asked people for directions on Jan. 5 at about 4:48 p.m. She appeared intoxicated, and the witnesses called police, according to Evergreen Park Police reports.
After searching the area, police found Sherry L. Hajewski, 37, of Evergreen Park in the 2800 block of 91st Street in the described vehicle, according to reports. While talking to her, police said they noticed “she was incoherent and had slurred speech.”
According to reports, Hajewski was unable to perform a field sobriety test.
Police said they took Hajewski and the child to the station in separate cars, then turned the child over to a family member. According to reports, police also found .01 gram of cocaine in Hajewski’s car.
Police charged Hajewski with endangering the life and health of a child, felony possession of a controlled substance, driving under the influence of drugs, illegal transportation of alcohol and no valid insurance.
